Hall of Fame member and former World Series champion BARRY LARKIN will “support the school for the second year in a row,” along with STEVE FINLEY, LATROY HAWKINS and Brazilian PAULO ORLANDO (RIO TIMES, 2/4). … Australia banned women’s cricketer PIEPA CLEARY for six months, with another 18 months suspended, “for placing bets on a men’s test match between Australia and New Zealand in November.” The 19-year-old Cleary, who plays for Western Australia state, “had placed six bets” totaling A$15.50 ($11.10) on the match at Adelaide Oval. The penalty bans Cleary “from all domestic and international cricket, including cricket-related functions and events” (REUTERS, 2/4).

NEYMAR URGED TO COME CLEAN: The Brazilian company that says it has not been "properly compensated" for NEYMAR's transfer to Barcelona "wants him to come clean and put an end to his judicial problems in Spain and Brazil." The co-founder of Grupo Sonda, which invested in Neymar early in his career, said on Thursday, "You are an exceptional player and I wouldn't like to see you going down in history marked by a crime. Hopefully, you will show the same maturity that you have on the field and will put an end to your judicial problems in Brazil and Spain." DIS, the investment group that belongs to Sonda, has claimed in court that it was "financially damaged" because Barcelona, Neymar, and Brasileiro club Santos "withheld the real amount of the player's transfer fee" in '13 (AP, 2/4).

HONORARY PRESIDENT: Hollywood A-lister NAOMI WATTS agreed to become the "honorary president of a small Anglesey football club." Watts said that she was "very excited" to take on the role for Welsh Alliance side Glantraeth FC, based in Malltraeth, which has a population of 400 people. Watts "spent time as a child on her grandparents' farm nearby." After former President GEORGE MEYRICK stood down last August, Secretary STAN STRICKLAND suggested Watts "as a replacement." He sent a letter to her agent, who is based in L.A., and "received a positive response on Monday" (BBC, 2/2).
