Event Notes: Barcelona Could Be First Club To Visit West Ham's Olympic Stadium

Lionel Messi "could be one of the first players to grace West Ham’s new stadium," with the EPL club in talks with Barcelona "about the Spaniards being the first visitors to the Olympic Park." Barcelona Manager Luis Enrique’s club "could be the first away side to play at West Ham’s new 55,000-seater home in Stratford on August 3." The Hammers have made contact "having consulted with fans over the best way to celebrate the move, with the majority of supporters eager for the chance" to see Messi and his teammates (London INDEPENDENT, 2/4). ... German Hockey League (DEL) side Adler Mannheim "has officially confirmed its bid to host the league's third outdoor Winter Games in '17." The club "plans to host the game at the 30,000-seat Rhein-Neckar Arena in Sinsheim," home of Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim. Dusseldorf "is the other club, which submitted a bid for the game" (SPONSORs, 2/3). ... The Professional Squash Association confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Sportspin Event & Athlete Management that will see the PSA Women's World Championship take place in Kuala Lumpur in April. The tournament, which will be the most lucrative in the history of the women's tour, will be staged by Sportspin in association with the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia, at the Bukit Jalil Stadium from April 23-30 (PSA World Tour).
