The BBC and ESPN have "secured four-year deals to show on-demand Cricket World Cup highlights," according to Mark Sweney of the London GUARDIAN. The U.K. digital rights deal with cricket’s int'l governing body "covers major events including the 2019 World Cup, which will be hosted by England and Wales." The deal with the Int'l Cricket Council "will see the BBC Sport and ESPN websites show video clips, end-of-day roundups and digital preview programming for a string of events over the next four years including the World Twenty20 competition." BBC Sport Dir Barbara Slater said, "The online rights will complement our live radio commentary portfolio and popular online offering, giving U.K. audiences video of the best of the action wherever they are." The BBC "has a host of cricket radio rights," including Test Match Special commentary and text coverage online, but no TV rights (GUARDIAN, 2/1). The BBC reported major events will "include the World Twenty20, Champions Trophy, Women's World Cup and the 2019 World Cup." Other ICC tournaments covered include: the current U19 World Cup, the 2018 U19 World Cup and the 2018 Women's World Twenty 20 (BBC, 2/1).
