Media Notes: Germany's Federal Cartel Office To Introduce 'No Single Buyer' Rule

Germany's Federal Cartel Office wants to introduce a "no single buyer" rule when it awards broadcasting rights for the '17-18 Bundesliga season, potentially "dealing a blow" to Sky Deutschland, Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said. The cartel office is "pushing the German Football League to modify the way it auctions the rights, demanding a new rule which would prevent a single broadcaster from getting all the live games," the paper said (REUTERS, 1/24). ... Fans in Poland will see the British Speedway Elite League after Eleven Sports Network secured a multi-year rights agreement with Pitch Int'l. Running from March to October this year, the 2016 British Speedway Elite League will feature a total of eight teams, competing against each other four times (twice at home and twice away) over the course of the season (Eleven Sports). ... India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni "knows the introduction of broadcast technology has enhanced the viewing experience for fans but the skipper has called for restraint after the overhead 'Spidercam' interfered with play in Saturday's one-dayer against Australia." Virat Kohli "upper-cut John Hastings for a boundary in the 19th over of India's innings but it was declared a dead-ball after hitting a camera." Dhoni said that the camera, "which travels along cables and gives a bird's eye view of the action, had to be used more carefully" (REUTERS, 1/24).
