New La Liga side Espanyol President Chen Yanhseng on Thursday "held his first press conference as the club's president and majority shareholder," according to Mª Carmen Juárez of MUNDO DEPORTIVO. He said that his intention is to "make the club financially healthy, internationalize it at all levels and go to the Champions League in less than three years." This would be the "very concise" summary of his declarations during a speech that lasted a little more than an hour. He explained that "I am president of Espanyol and CEO of Rastar, and because of this I will have to come and go. I will have the club controlled from China with a group that will work here and another that will work there." He said of the club's history and his plans, "We know the culture and tradition of the club and we want to maintain it. The changes will be focused on technical improvement and managing it like a multi-national. We want the club to be bigger and grow with the work of everyone" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 1/21). In Madrid, D. Piferrer reported Chen said, "I hope that the team is in the Champions League and [financially] healthy in less than three years. ... With our presence, there will be no obligation to trade footballers." Of potential investment, he said, "In addition to the €50 million ($54.2M), there will be audits to look at the situation of the club and we will see what is needed" (MARCA, 1/21).
