Media Notes: Portuguese Second Tier Sides Agree To TV Rights Deal With MEO

Portugal's Segunda Liga commission "agreed a broadcast rights deal" with Altice-owned telecom brand MEO, worth €500,000 ($545,000) per club over the next three years. The new deal for Portuguese football's second tier comes into effect from the start of the '16-17 season "and will see MEO show Segunda Liga matches for three seasons." In addition, MEO's logo "will be displayed on the backs of the playing shirts of all clubs in the division" (SOCCEREX, 1/18). ... The Int'l Cricket Council announced that Channel 2 Group has been appointed as its global audio rights partner after it acquired exclusive audio rights for all ICC events from '16-23. Under the terms of the agreement, Channel 2 Group will have global FM and AM rights, including exclusive distribution and sub-licensing rights for all the 17 ICC events in the '16-23 period, starting with this month’s ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh through to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India (ICC). ... David Haye's 131-second knockout of Mark de Mori "was watched by three million viewers on Saturday night." Haye "was making his comeback after three-and-a-half years out of the ring after suffering a serious shoulder injury." The heavyweight drew an "impressive audience" on free-to-air entertainment channel Dave as well as a crowd of around 16,000 at The O2 arena. The channel reported a peak of 3 million viewers for the fight with an average of 1.3 million for the show (London DAILY MAIL, 1/18). ... Cignal TV will broadcast UFC live throughout the Philippines via Cignal direct to home and on encore broadcast via TV5. Cignal will bring extensive UFC programming to Filipino households through Hyper Channel 53 (UFC).
