Sports Direct Gives Away $3.4M Worth Of Jackets After Newcastle United Win

EPL side Newcastle United's sponsors will giveaway £2.4M ($3.4M) "worth of EverLast jackets after the Magpies beat West Ham," according to Callum Davis of the London TELEGRAPH. Newcastle Chair Mike Ashley, who is the owner of club and stadium sponsors, Sports Direct, "offered up the opportunity for every Newcastle fan to receive a winter jacket prior to their game with West Ham." In the competition run on Sports Direct's Facebook account, fans "were invited to 'Like' the retailer's page in order to enter into the competition." The unprecedented giveaway "was dependent on Steve McClaren's side securing all three points against West Ham." Participants who registered received a voucher that "will entitle them to a free Everlast coat" worth £59.99 ($85.50), which will be available from Sports Direct website. A Sports Direct spokesperson said, "Mike knows that customers love our crazy prices and great giveaways so he’s decided to go the extra mile to get everybody behind the team" (TELEGRAPH, 1/17).
