Former Chelsea Manager Mourinho Is World Football's Biggest Spender In Past 10 Years

Former Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho "has spent more than any other manager in the last 10 years," according to Kieran Gill of the London DAILY MAIL. The 52-year-old’s transfer total comes to about £619M ($907M) and he is followed by Man City Manager Manuel Pellegrini on £597M ($875M) and Carlo Ancelotti on £466M ($683M). Pellegrini spent £80M on Cristiano Ronaldo in '09 during his time at Real Madrid and among his other purchases were Karim Benzema for £30M and Xabi Alonso for the same amount. ManU Manager Louis van Gaal "sits sixth in the top" 10 after spending £337M ($494M), according to the study by Grup 14. Mourinho "managed Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea (twice) during the last decade" and spent £67M ($98M) last season as he went on to win the Premier League title. Pep Guardiola's transfer total is £382M ($560M), "putting him in fifth on the list." Former ManU Manager Alex Ferguson "makes an appearance in 10th place," having spent £281M before retiring in '13 after 26 years with the club (DAILY MAIL, 1/5).
