Increased Security Resulted In Long Lines Ahead Of BBL Melbourne Derby

Big Bash League side Melbourne Stars’ officials "will meet with the Melbourne Cricket Club on Monday to discuss 'teething issues' related to increased security measures which led to chaotic scenes for fans entering the MCG for Saturday night’s game," according to Greg Buckle of the HERALD SUN. An Australian domestic Twenty20 record crowd of 80,883 "saw the Stars beat Big Bash League rival the Melbourne Renegades." However some fans "were delayed by an hour or more" and missed the start of the 6:10pm fixture as they queued for bag searches and metal detection and negotiated perimeter fencing around the stadium. The extra security measures which was introduced after last year’s Paris attacks "tested the patience of some fans who climbed the fences." Stars CEO Clint Cooper: "The security measures in here (at the MCG) which we fully support, we’re still going through some teething issues." Cooper suggested how the Australian Football League handled big crowds with increased security measures in the winter "would be something that cricket officials would closely monitor" (HERALD SUN, 1/3).
