Olympic Notes: Rio De Janeiro's Olympic Park 95 Percent Complete

Organizers claimed construction work at Rio de Janeiro's Barra Olympic Park, the main venue cluster for next year's Olympic Games, "is 95 percent complete." The complex "will comprise nine venues that will host 16 Olympic and nine Paralympic events, in addition to the main press center and international broadcast centre." Meanwhile the Olympic and Paralympic Village, which will host nearly 14,000 athletes next year, "is 97 percent ready according to Rio2016.com on Tuesday" (IANS, 12/30). ... The Japanese government "plans to submit to the Diet bills that would help secure funds for building the main stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics." The government plans "to submit the bills to next year's ordinary Diet session and hopes to quickly enact them" (NHK, 12/29).
