League Notes: Supreme Court Faces Possible Backlash From BCCI

The Indian Supreme Court constituted committee headed by former Chief Justice R M Lodha "is facing a possible backlash" from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. A day after TOI "provided a sneak peek into the possible recommendations of the Justice Lodha panel, put together to probe the IPL fixing case and also to suggest ways to help BCCI become more transparent and professional, those connected to the committee said the offices of the BCCI president and secretary made inquiries about the fees paid to the judges." They said the panel "was apprehensive that the BCCI was digging out facts about the compensation paid to the three members" -- former CJI Lodha and retired SC judges Ashok Bhan and R V Raveendran -- "to attempt to discredit its recommendations, which sources said could be radical and ground-breaking" (TIMES OF INDIA, 12/30). ... The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Wednesday "decided to file a defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad and other top Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionaries for making 'wild and baseless' allegations of corruption against the cricket body." Acting President Chetan Chauhan said a lot of “false” charges "have been levelled against the state cricket body and it was forced to take legal recourse against those spreading such disinformation" (PTI, 12/30).
