Management of Sport1 GmbH Chair OLAF SCHRÖDER has been appointed as a member of the management board with responsibility for the area of sports starting Jan. 1 (Constantin Medien AG). ... JURGEN MAINKA has been "promoted to deputy general secretary of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football." He will work with acting General Secretary TED HOWARD. A Mexican and German citizen, Mainka joined CONCACAF in Nov. '12 "as director of communications and marketing." He "was director of media relations" for the New England Revolution ('99-03), director of communications and business for the Colorado Rapids ('03-07) and worked for Octagon ('07-09) (AP, 12/11). ... KEN LAY will now attempt to usher Australian Football League side Essendon into a "positive era, when he is appointed to the Bombers' board on Monday." Lay, who stood down as chief commissioner of Victoria Police at the start of '15 after three years in charge, will "replace outgoing chairman PAUL LITTLE as a Dons director following the club's annual general meeting on Monday." He left "his police post due to his wife's illness" (THE AGE, 12/14). ... La Liga side Espanyol announced that it sacked coach SERGIO GONZÁLEZ. The club named Romanian CONSTANTIN GÂLCĂ its new manager. Gâlcă played for the club from '97-01 (La Liga).
