Names In The News

The new England Rugby head coach EDDIE JONES "was unable to get down to business" on his first official day Tuesday because "he has not yet received a visa to work in the country whose rugby team he has been employed to run." Jones, an Australian recently based in Japan, "was stuck in Tokyo, still hoping that a visa would come through in time for him to get his feet under the desk at his Twickenham office by the end of the week" (LONDON TIMES, 12/2). ... DAVE TENNISON, the kit man "who was alleged to have given share tips to England players that lost them money, has been sacked." Tennison was the subject of a Rugby Football Union investigation last month "after England’s dismal World Cup campaign was followed by claims that players, including SAM BURGESS and DANNY CARE, had been sent emails in the build-up to the tournament urging them to invest in a company whose share price then crashed." Tennison lost his job after 13 years, but he "denies any wrongdoing and plans to appeal" (LONDON TIMES, 12/2). ... Dethroned heavyweight champion WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO confirmed that he "had taken up the option of a rematch" against TYSON FURY. The "date for the rematch presents a problem." Klitschko will "need to travel to Britain, and Fury would like to hold his homecoming bout in a football stadium." But the "availability of an arena of this size before the summer and the unreliability of British weather could dictate when the bout takes place." An indoor arena "may be considered too small for a fight of this magnitude" (LONDON TIMES, 12/2). ... Scottish Premiership side Celtic suspended ANTHONY STOKES for two weeks "following his social media comments about being left out of the team." He "complained about sitting in the stand at Inverness and insisted playing was more important than money." Manager RONNY DEILA said that Stokes' remarks "showed a lack of respect" to his teammates (BBC, 12/2).
