Channel Ten Wants Melbourne And Sydney Tests Exempt From Pink Ball

Big Bash League broadcaster Channel Ten insists the Melbourne and Sydney Tests should "remain traditional daytime fixtures despite supporting most home Tests each summer being played under lights," according to Jesse Hogan of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. The first two days of the inaugural day-night Test "delivered peak metropolitan TV ratings nudging 2 million for Channel Nine." Channel Ten Sport CEO Dave Barham hailed all on-field and off-field aspects of the match as "fantastic." He said, "I reckon it's a great thing. The more interest there is in cricket the better it is for everyone. I love my Test cricket. I reckon it's been a great success all round, and Nine should be congratulated as part of that." Barham said that having Brisbane join Adelaide as host of a day-night Test, as Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland has flagged, would be "an absolutely fantastic idea." He said he would "oppose changing the Boxing Day and New Year Tests to be played under lights." Barham: "I think there's some things you wouldn't change. Boxing Day is one of them. I just think that's too far -- and I think Sydney is the same. Sydney is a great occasion, really well attended and really well respected for what it is" (SMH, 11/29).
