Facility Notes: K Club Gears Up For 2016 Irish Open With $21.2M Renovation Program

The K Club is gearing up to host the 2016 Irish Open. As part of the preparations the Straffen club "has undergone" a €20M ($21.2M) program of extension and renovation, doubling its number of guest bedrooms from 70 to 140 and adding a new bar and conference room in the process (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 11/29). ... Lundin "has become the latest Scottish golf club to bring down its male-only barriers" after a successful vote in favor of mixed membership. The proposal "was passed by a two-thirds majority at a special meeting last week, marking a historic occasion for the Fife club, which was founded in 1868." The change "allows women and girls from the age of 12 to become members of a club that has hosted Open qualifying on a number of occasions and is also the traditional home of  the East of Scotland Open" (SCOTSMAN, 11/27).
