Facility Notes: Lord's Warner Stand To Be Closed For Test Match Due To Asbestos

The Warner Stand "will not be available for use during the first of the two Test matches at Lord’s next summer" after a second discovery of asbestos during demolition. It was removed from the roof last month and "has now been found in the base of the stand," built in '58, causing a delay of four weeks. Marylebone Cricket Club is "examining whether it can be financially compensated as a result of inaccurate advice" (LONDON TIMES, 11/21). ... A new £4.8M ($7.29M) sports arena in Leicester is "on its way to being finished by the end of January." The center, in Charter Street, near Abbey Park, will "primarily be used by the Leicester Riders basketball team, but will also be used by Leicester College and Leicester Cobras wheelchair basketball club." Work started on the 2,300-seat community sports center earlier this year (LEICESTER MERCURY, 11/22).
