League Notes: Jarryd Hayne Will Remain In San Francisco

Former National Rugby League player Jarryd Hayne will remain in San Francisco, with the only thing "occupying his mind being a chance to resurrect his career in the NFL and not the NRL," according to his agent Wayne Beavis. Hayne "was cut" from the NFL San Francisco 49ers active roster three weeks ago, and is "now back in the practice squad hoping to prove his worth again to coach Jim Tomsula." Newpaper reports in Sydney Thursday said that two clubs, Sydney Roosters and Penrith, "confirmed they would bid for Hayne if he did want to return." Beavis said, "Absolutely no truth in it whatsoever. There has been no talk with anyone, any club, about Jarryd coming home" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 11/19). ... Lance Armstrong’s former physician Michele Ferrari has been "ordered to stand trial for allegedly providing doping assistance to a biathlete." Italian biathlete Daniel Taschler and his father, Gottlieb, an Int'l Biathlon Union VP, "were also indicted by a preliminary judge" in Bolzano, Italy, on Wednesday. The "older Taschler is accused of recommending that his son use Ferrari for doping, and contacting the doctor." Ferrari was "banned for life" by the Italian Cycling Federation in '02 (AP, 11/19). ... The Algerian Rugby Federation (FAR) was “officially created Tuesday” after a general assembly in Algiers. The assembly was presided over by IOC Member and Former FINA President Mustapha Larfaoui. Sofiane Ben Hassen was elected president of the FAR. 12 board members were also elected. Ben Hassen said, “This is a historic moment for Algerian rugby with the creation of an official body that will promote discipline at a national level and to support youth rugby through establishing schools” (L’ÉQUIPE, 11/19).
