Leeds United Fan Group Seek Exclusivity From Owner

Leeds United's supporters group, which was told it can purchase Leeds from Owner Massimo Cellino, will "look to determine the price the Italian wants for his majority stake in the club," according to Wayne Gardiner of the YORKSHIRE POST. Cellino told Leeds Fans United on Friday that he was willing to sell "his controlling interest in United, having grown disillusioned on the back of fan unrest at his ownership." LFU has "long held the ambition" of raising £8M ($12.3M)-£10M ($15.4M) in order to "get a voice on Leeds’ board, but is now preparing to work towards a far larger amount in order to buy Cellino out." Cellino has so far "failed to provide the figure he will be seeking to move on" but has said that he will "leave without profit and told LFU he wishes such a move to be seen as his legacy to the club’s fans." Cellino is reportedly due to speak with another party interested in buying Leeds in London Monday "following a separate approach over the weekend." Cellino's decision to sell, confirmed by the former Cagliari owner to the BBC and also by LFU, "could trigger a bidding war" but LFU is starting the the process of "seeking a period of exclusivity" to try and finalize a deal (YORKSHIRE POST, 11/2). In London, the BBC reported Cellino, who is still going ahead with his appeal against a Football League ban, said that he was "sad and embarrassed" about how his ownership of the club had turned out. LFU CEO Dylan Thwaites "is confident LFU, which was launched in April with the aim of buying a minority stake in the club, will get exclusivity on the deal in the near future." Thwaites: "He was adamant that he would only sell to Leeds fans" (BBC, 11/2).
