PSG Cracks Top Ten Of Most Followed Sports Franchises On Facebook

Since May ’11, when Qatar Sports Investments purchased Paris St. Germain, PSG has “gained more than 20 million fans on Facebook,” according to Sébastien Nieto of LE PARISIEN. The club now has more than 21.3 million fans following it on the social media site. That number “places the club ninth among the most followed sport franchises in the world,” above the NBA Los Angeles Lakers. The “most impressive statistic” is the 51.31% increase of fans over the past year. Of the top 100 sport franchises, “none did better.” When QSI purchased the team, “90% of fans were French.” Today “90% of fans are found outside of France.” The “next step for the club is to take on the giants of the football world:” Real Madrid with 84 million followers, and Barcelona, with 87 million followers (LE PARISIEN, 10/29).
