Football Association Of Malaysia Hits Back At Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim Allegations

Football Association of Malaysia released a statement defending itself after Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim "called on FIFA to investigate the national body for failing to combat corruption and hoarding money meant for the M-League," according to Vijhay Vick of FOUR FOUR TWO. The Crown Prince of Johor said that the FAM was not "wholeheartedly fighting corruption and were reluctant to use Sportradar’s betting monitoring services despite offering to foot the bill himself." He also felt FAM was "misappropriating rights revenue" as the proposed financial breakdown from the MP & Silva RM1.2B ($280M) deal has the clubs receiving "only a fraction of the sum." His comments "did not go down too well with the national body." A statement by FAM General Secretary Datuk Hamidin Amin on Tuesday said that there was "no basis to such allegations." Hamidin's statement: “Saying FAM should be investigated by FIFA is unsubstantiated. We underwent some FIFA observations and have made improvements on the administration and financial management under the FIFA Performance Programme. Representatives from FIFA visited FAM to analyse us. It was not a find fault mission but rather to see how we could improve." FAM refused to comment "on the use of Sportradar, but chose to explain the broadcast and marketing rights revenue breakdown" (FOUR FOUR TWO, 10/21).
