La Liga Prepares To Auction Domestic Rights For Next Three Seasons

Before the end of the year, La Liga will call broadcasters to an auction for the national TV rights for the next three seasons ('16-17-'18-19), per an agreement signed by the Spanish Football League (LFP) and the sports federations, according to Carlos Arribas of EL PAÍS. The predictions for annual revenue per season range from €600M ($680M) -- the amount earned this season -- to €900M ($1.02B). The int'l rights will remain under the control of Mediapro for four more years. The signing of the agreement took place at LFP HQ (EL PAÍS, 10/21).

CLASH CONTINUES: MARCA reported the "soap opera" between Movistar+ and beIN Sports over Champions League rights continues. BeIN Sports, which holds the rights in Spain to Europe's top competition, has lowered its demands "in search of an agreement." The ball is now in Movistar+'s court, but "it does not seem committed to buying the rights after seeing that it is not suffering a great number of losses" (MARCA, 10/21).
