Event Notes: Kuwait Steps Down As Host Of Gulf Cup Of Nations

Kuwait stepped down as host of December's Gulf Cup of Nations "following FIFA's decision last week to suspend the country's football association." FIFA said that the ban was "handed down because of government interference in the running of the KFA." The emirate is "home to influential sports power broker Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah" (REUTERS, 10/19). ... Four World Baseball Softball Confederation world championship hosts were awarded for the next two calendar years '18-19: 2018 WBSC Junior Men's Softball World Championship, Prince Albert, SK, Canada; 2018 WBSC Women's Softball World Championship, Chiba, Japan; 2019 WBSC Junior Women's Softball World Championship, Irvine, Calif.; 2019 WBSC Men's Softball World Championship, Prague/Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic. The 2017 Softball Division Congress host was awarded to Gaborone, Botswana (WBSC).
