Rugby World Cup Ticket Prices Drop As Disappointed England Fans Sell Up

England's elimination from the Rugby World Cup "has meant more tickets are now available at lower prices to matches in the tournament's knockout phase," according to Huw Silk of WALES ONLINE. Many England supporters "are believed to have bought tickets" for the South Africa vs. Wales and Australia vs. Scotland clashes this weekend on the assumption it would be England involved in one of the games. But England's exit "has meant many have posted their tickets for resale -- either via the official Rugby World Cup website or on unofficial sites including Viagogo and Stubhub." On Tuesday morning, tickets in three of the four price categories on the official site for South Africa vs. Wales were available at £250 ($382), £215 ($328) and £150 ($229). For Australia vs. Scotland, which "many predicted would be a England-Scotland Calcutta Cup showdown, there is a good availability," with the cheapest price band -- £95 ($145) -- also on offer (WALES ONLINE, 10/13).

FINAL INDIGNITY: REUTERS reported South Africa has moved into England's long-time training base at Pennyhill Park in Surrey following Stuart Lancaster's side's "disastrous" campaign. In theory, "tournament rules meant that they may have had to vacate Pennyhill anyway had they reached the last eight but no debate is necessary now." The Rugby Football Union has invested £2.5M ($3.8M) to turn the hotel and grounds 30 miles south of London into a "bespoke training and preparation facility" (REUTERS, 10/11).
