League Notes: England Women's Cricketers Want Man With Int'l Experience As Coach

England's women's cricket squad "hope to appoint a man with int'l experience as their new head coach." Paul Shaw is "stepping down as head of performance after the summer's Ashes loss to Australia." England & Wales Cricket Board Head of Women's Cricket Clare Connor said, "The qualities and experiences we are looking for are going to be found more than likely with a coach who has worked at as high a level as possible in the men's game" (BBC, 10/7). ... The Board of Control for Cricket in India has sought a report from its state unit on the crowd trouble during Monday's Twenty20 match against South Africa, "which has prompted calls for a ban on the venue." Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar led calls for a ban on Cuttack "after supporters at the sold-out Barabati Stadium in Orissa threw bottles during the change of innings and again when South Africa were batting" (SPORT24, 10/7). ... Non-contracted Australian cricketers picked to tour Bangladesh -- who could have earned A$68,223 ($49,200) if Australia won both Tests -- are set to receive a A$5,000 ($3,600) tour sign-on fee from Cricket Australia "as well as match and series bonuses partly because the issue of player payment for postponed tours is not specifically covered in their collective bargaining agreement." Australia's squad of 15, including four non-contracted players, "will be entitled to match winning payments" of A$5,400 ($3,900) and a series-winning payment of A$14,163 ($10,200). Those contracted by Cricket Australia "will not receive any immediate compensation for missing the tour match and two Tests" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/6).
