Football Notes: Norwich City, Leicester City Supporters Donate To Child Refugee Fund

EPL sides Norwich City and Leicester City supporters made donations during the Save The Children Child Refugee Crisis Appeal. Fans at Saturday's Premier League match between the two sides at Carrow Road took part in the biggest ground collection held by Norwich, with every pound donated matched by Aviva, the club's main sponsor, up to £10,000 ($15,320). The money collected is still being counted but the club estimates the amount raised will exceed £60,000 ($92,000) (Premier League). ... The Premier League agreed with England PM David Cameron to expand the League's schools offer to every primary school in the country. The Premier League's sport and education offer is currently in 4,158 schools but the League is to more than double the availability of the program to 10,000 schools in the next three years and offer it to all primary schools within six years (Premier League). ... The Spanish Anti-Violence Commission proposed that the five Benfica fans who threw flares during their side's Champions League match against Atlético Madrid at the Vicente Calderón should be fined €60,001 ($67,400) euros apiece. The commission has also suggested a further three €6,000 ($6,700) fines be levied at the Portuguese fans "who set off flares in the stadium, albeit without throwing them, and that all of the above-mentioned supporters should be banned from attending sports events for a year." The commission also argued that Atlético Madrid should be fined €8,000 for "failings in their crowd control measures in not preventing nine flares from being brought into the venue and subsequently lit" (MARCA, 10/7).
