Franchise Notes: Arsenal Overstates Emirates Attendances By Up To 5,000 Fans Per Game

Police figures revealed that Arsenal inflated its Emirates attendance "by up to 5,000 fans per game last season." The club, whose capacity stands at 60,432, claims "sell-out crowds for almost every game, domestically and in Europe." However, "data released by the Metropolitan Police show numbers were significantly overcooked for home Premier League fixtures last term" (London DAILY MIRROR, 10/7). ... A-League side Melbourne Victory became the first A-League club "to surpass 25,000 members." It means the club "has a greater membership tally" in '15 than all National Rugby League clubs bar South Sydney and Brisbane (AAP, 10/7). ... Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner "revealed that talks with two manufacturers are taking place as Red Bull continues to work on its engine supplier crisis." The energy drink company said that "it will have to quit" F1 if it cannot secure a competitive alternative engine for '16. Mercedes, however, "ruled out working with Red Bull, Ferrari is believed to be offering only a 'B' engine, and Honda has played down reports linking it strongly with Red Bull's secondary team, Toro Rosso." Nonetheless, Horner said, "There are talks with two manufacturers" (GRAND PRIX, 10/6).
