Names In The News

Channel Nine has "stood down" ANDREW JOHNS from Sunday's grand final broadcast following an "intoxicated incident at Toowoomba airport on Friday night." Johns, a regular member of Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show, "wasn't included on the panel leading into the grand final coverage on Sunday." H has also been told he "will not be part of the broadcast of the all-Queensland grand final between the Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys at ANZ Stadium." It comes after Johns was accused of "disgusting and disgraceful" behavior, photographed lying on the floor at Toowoomba's Wellcamp airport on Friday night after allegedly propositioning a married woman, who labelled Johns' behavior as "a very bad example" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/5). ... Former F1 world champion NIGEL MANSELL believes that he could be as fast as LEWIS HAMILTON is now in the championship-leading Mercedes -- "despite being 62-years old." The Englishman was "the people's champion of his day, adored for his ability to grab a car by the scruff of its neck and extract every ounce of performance, and never shied away from a wheel to wheel fight with legends like AYRTON SENNA and ALAIN PROST." Mansell: "I'd get very close to his time, if not do an identical time" (FOX SPORTS, 10/3). ... UFC women's bantamweight champion RONDA ROUSEY continues to "break down boundaries by becoming the first woman to grace the cover of Australia's Men's Fitness magazine." The 28-year old, who is "dominating popular culture as one of the world's most successful MMA fighters," appears on the cover accompanied by the caption, "Think you're tough." While there have been women on the cover of the U.S. Men's Fitness magazine, "Rousey has the honor of being the first to appear on the Australian cover" (FOX SPORTS, 10/4).
