A-League Club Brisbane Roar Players Paid After Cash Injection By Bakrie Group

Bakrie Group will continue its ownership of A-League club Brisbane Roar for "at least another month after coming good with a million-dollar cash injection to prop up the wages of players and staff and pay off some debts," according to Ray Gatt of THE AUSTRALIAN. The news came as another round of talks between Football Federation Australia and the players' union "finally offered some hope of a resolution to the standoff over a new Collective Bargaining Agreement." As promised in discussions with FFA on Tuesday, the Bakrie Group deposited the Roar's monthly wages on Wednesday -- a day late -- "once again averting the serious possibility" of the head body revoking its license to own the A-League club. FFA had been "ready to step in" until the Bakrie Group provided it with bank statements showing the money transfer would go through on Wednesday. The Bakrie Group, which has "hit serious financial trouble at home, wants to sell the Roar" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 9/17).
