Big-5 Football Clubs Break '14 Record By Shelling Out $3.7B In Summer Transfer Window

Big-5 (EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1) clubs committed €3.3B ($3.7B) to sign players during the summer transfer window, including add-on and loan fees. This is a 32% increase compared to the previous record set last summer. On average, during the last three summer transfer windows ('13-15), the expenditure of big-5 clubs was 68% greater than in the previous three years ('10-12). The biggest increase was recorded by the EPL, at 98%. Man City tops the table for this summer with an expenditure of €230M ($260M), ahead of ManU (€189M) ($214M) and Juventus (€137M) ($155M). The expenditure of EPL clubs (€1.35B) ($1.53B) accounted for 41% of total big-5 league investments. Man City also heads the ranking of transfer fees invested since July '10: €784M ($887M). In second and third position are Chelsea (€711M) ($805M) and ManU (€640M) ($724M). The top non-EPL club is Paris St. Germain at €615M ($696M) (CIES Football Observatory).
