Super Rugby Side ACT Brumbies CEO Says Government Helped Broker Record Aquis Deal

Super Rugby side ACT Brumbies CEO Michael Jones said that it was the ACT government that helped broker its record sponsorship deal with Aquis and that he thought the legal action taken against the Super Rugby club was not "going to go anywhere," according to David Polkinghorne of the CANBERRA TIMES. It was reported on Tuesday that John Stanley Beagle was suing the Brumbies for "failing to pay him a finder's fee." Beagle claims he helped put the Brumbies' six-year, A$8M deal with Aquis together. Aquis bought the Canberra Casino last year and increased its exposure in Canberra by signing on as the Brumbies' major sponsor in '15. Beagle claimed he "helped facilitate the sponsorship, which was the biggest in the Brumbies' 20-year history." Jones was "unconcerned by the proceedings." He said, "I don't expect it's going to go anywhere." Jones said that it was the government that had "helped bring the two parties together." Jones: "The ACT government said to Aquis if you're coming to Canberra you guys should have a look at investing in Canberra so they're the ones who referred Aquis to us" (CANBERRA TIMES, 9/8).
