League Notes: PCB Asks BCCI About Status Of December's Bilateral Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board "has written to its Indian counterpart Board of Control for Cricket in India inquiring if December's bilateral series will be played or not." India has in recent times "hinted that cross-border terrorism could jeopardise the mouth-watering cricket series." PCB Chair Shaharyar Khan: "Politics is vulnerable to highs and lows and the sport of cricket should be kept away from it. Cricket is a tool to formulate peace between the countries." The BCCI had signed an MOU "to play Pakistan in six series between 2015 and 2023, with the first to be hosted by the PCB in the UAE in December." But the Indian board "has not been forthcoming on the proposed series largely due to political implications" (NDTV SPORTS, 8/2). ... More than 1,400 drug tests "were carried out at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing." Just two positive tests were recorded -- although the IAAF said that hundreds of samples "still need to be analysed." The IAAF was also criticized "for the scale of its testing plans in Beijing." But the governing body has defended its program, saying, "The doping control program implemented by the IAAF in Beijing was the largest implemented in a single sporting event by any sport since the IAAF World Championships in Moscow two years ago" (BBC, 9/1).
