Event Notes: South African Judge Dismisses Attempt To Block Springboks From RWC

A legal attempt to block the South African team flying to the U.K. to play in the Rugby World Cup "in a row over racial discrimination has failed." A judge in Pretoria "dismissed an opposition political party's bid to block the Springboks over a perceived lack of black players." Nine non-white players "have been named in the 31-man Springbok squad" (BBC, 9/2). ... The Melbourne Cricket Ground "is expected to host all Victorian-based finals," with the Australian Football League "all but ruling out the prospect of a home final for the Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium." While there has been "speculation about the Bulldogs hosting a home final at Etihad if they finish fifth or sixth, the AFL believes that the small number of finals -- and potential match-ups -- means it is almost certain that all finals hosted in Melbourne will be at the MCG" (THE AGE, 9/2). ... GAC Pindar and five-time World Match Racing Champion Ian Williams announced their entry into the remainder of this year's M32 Scandinavia series. Williams will compete in the M32 Series in parallel with his bid to win his sixth Match Racing World title (M32 Series).
