Franchise Notes: Italian Clubs Ascoli, Virtus Entella Promoted To Serie B

Italian football clubs Ascoli and Virtus Entella have been promoted to Serie B to replace Catania and Teramo. Both clubs have been "involved in a match-fixing scandal," with the former demoted to Lega Pro and deducted 12 points, and Teramo denied promotion and demoted to Serie D. The clubs have been given 10 days to "complete the necessary steps to register, and will also be granted an additional 20 days of transfer activity" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/31). ... Five people were injured when a safety barrier gave way during Bordeaux's Ligue 1 game at home to Nantes. The barrier, which is "supposed to prevent fans from going on to the pitch," gave way after Milan Gajic scored the second goal in Bordeaux's 2-0 win (REUTERS, 8/30).
