Super League Club Leeds Rhinos Reports Pre-Tax Profits Of £1.1M Through Oct. '14

Pre-tax profits have "more than doubled" at the business behind Super League rugby club Leeds Rhinos as its off-field financial performance matched its "on-field success," according to David Casey of INSIDER MEDIA LIMITED. The Rhinos, who are readying for a second successive Challenge Cup final appearance this weekend in an all-Yorkshire affair with Hull KR, "also posted a rise in turnover" to almost £11M ($16.95M). The latest accounts for Leeds Cricket, Football & Athletic Company show the Headingley club made a pre-tax profit of £1.1M in the year to Oct. 31, 2014, up from £406,000 a year earlier. Turnover also grew by 8.6% to £10.9M for the same reporting periods. Club directors said an "overall reduction in overheads contributed to the profit rise" despite a slight rise in staff costs from £3.96M to £4.1M ($6.3M). The directors added that its commercial department "enjoyed a record year while the Headingley Experience -- the club's conference and events facility -- also had its best-ever year" (INSIDER MEDIA LIMITED, 8/25).
