Professional Football Creates Added Value Of €7.9B For German Economy In '14

The "economic importance of professional football in Germany has dramatically increased over the past several years," according to the DPA. In '14, professional football created an added value of €7.9B, which represents an increase of 55% in comparison to '08. Football, which "creates more than 110,000 jobs and generates every 350th euro in the country, has grown 10-times faster than Germany's industry." In addition, the federal government received €2.3B from taxes in '14. That is 53% more than in '08. German Football League (DFL) CEO Christian Seifert: "I think the German Football League and its clubs can be proud about what the Bundesliga has achieved over the past several years." He added that the numbers show "the strength of professional football, whether as an athletic competition, in its economic value or in its ability to inspire people." The numbers are the result of a study by McKinsey & Company, which was released on Tuesday, and has the title "Wachstumsmotor Bundesliga" ("Growth Engine Bundesliga"). The study continued to say that the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga "still have a significant growth potential until '20." The number of full-time jobs has grown by 40,000 since '08 (DPA, 8/11).
