Event Notes: London Tube Strike To Impact Fans' Travel For Capital One Cup

Football fans are "set to be caught up in travel chaos" after the RMT Union announced two further London Underground strikes during the week of the Capital One Cup second round. Underground staff "are planning two 24-hour walkouts that will affect the London tube network" from 9pm on Aug. 25 and from the same time on Aug. 27 (London DAILY MAIL, 8/11). ... The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will not feature on the European Tour next season "after it was moved to the end of June by the PGA Tour of America." The PGA is bringing the event forward next year to "avoid a clash with the Rio Olympics, where golf will feature for the first time" since 1904. However, the June date clashes with the French Open at Le Golf National (BBC, 8/11). ... The Int'l Swimming Federation (FINA) "is not planning to sanction" Mexico despite the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN) "changing the times of many its swimmers to allow them to compete" in the recently concluded World Swimming Championships in Kazan. FINA Exec Dir Cornel Marculescu said, "Sincerely, we do not see a big problem with this. It is a topic that is more administrative than something that could influence the competition. Times only allow you to participate. ... They did not qualify for the finals or even for the semifinals" (DPA, 8/9). ... A new equestrian arena has "been unveiled at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire ahead of the venue hosting the prestigious British Showjumping National Championships for the first time." The National Agricultural & Exhibition Centre, which manages the event venue at Stoneleigh Park, has invested £250,000 ($390,000) "in resurfacing an all-weather arena to London 2012 Olympic standard in time for the Championships" (BUSINESS DESK, 8/10).
