Report: Super Bowl-Winning Coaches Holmgren, Shanahan To Coach In NZ Bowl

Former NFL coach Mike Holmgren "will take charge of one of the two teams for the Southern Bowl in New Zealand in March next year," according to Clay Wilson of STUFF. Organizers of next year's Southern Bowl in New Zealand said the American football games have "morphed into something even more spectacular" since they announced the venture two months ago. Since then, Super Bowl-winning head coach Holmgren "has signed on to take charge of one of the teams, while fellow Super Bowl winner Mike Shanahan is in final negotiations to coach the other." Overseen by player agent and Southern Bowl spokersperson Jarin Giesler, player tryouts have already been held in San Francisco, Las Vegas and N.Y. The final two tryouts "are this weekend in San Diego and Dallas." Once tryouts are complete, Giesler, his scouting team and the coaches "will select the best players to take part in their own draft, where the coaches are set to go one-for-one in picking their 35-man rosters." Those teams "are scheduled to be announced in Auckland during the second week of October" (STUFF, 8/5).
