World F1 champion LEWIS HAMILTON edged out KIMI RÄIKKÖNEN as F1's "most popular driver in a global fan survey carried out by Britain's Autosport magazine and associated publications." A separate online survey this month backed by the Grand Prix Drivers Association and motorsport.com "found Ferrari's Räikkönen to be number one" ahead of McLaren's FERNANDO ALONSO and JENSON BUTTON. Both found Ferrari "to be the most popular team, followed by McLaren" (REUTERS, 7/30). ... MO FARAH "has been given the green light to continue training" with ALBERTO SALAZAR, his controversial coach, after a UK Athletics review "found no evidence of any wrongdoing." UKA "launched a review by its performance oversight group" of Farah’s training set-up after allegations of unethical doping practices made against Salazar in a BBC Panorama documentary (LONDON TIMES, 7/30).

COE GAINS SUPPORT: British Olympic Association Chair SEBASTIAN COE edged closer to securing the IAAF presidency "after winning public declarations of support of 12 European countries." Coe is running against SERGEY BUBKA, "the former Olympic pole vault champion from Ukraine," with the election to take place on Aug. 19 in Beijing. Coe’s team insists that it is "taking nothing for granted in the run-up to the election but nevertheless the declarations indicate he is well out in front in the race" to succeed LAMINE DIACK (PA, 7/30).
