Sacked Mexican National Team Manager Herrera Removed From TV Commercials

Former Mexican national football team coach Miguel Herrera, who was fired on Tuesday, "lost more than his position as coach," according to LA AFICIÓN. While coaching the national team, Herrera "lent his growing popularity to the service of several brands that quickly looked for his face to promote their products." Until Tuesday, two of seven commercials that had featured him -- ads for Movistar and Coca-Cola-owned bottled water brand Ciel -- were still airing on TV. These companies "will no longer use the image" of Herrera, and Coca-Cola even "released a statement reproaching violence and praising the decision to fire him." Movistar, for its part, "completely removed the presence of 'Piojo' from its website" (LA AFICIÓN, 7/29).
