Football Notes: WADA Reveals Less Than 1 In 200 Players Tested Positive In '14

The World Anti-Doping Agency has released "comprehensive statistics" on anti-doping tests analyzed by WADA-accredited laboratories in '14. The 31,242 football samples analyzed, equivalent to more than 85 a day, represented the highest total for any Olympic sport, "ahead of athletics with just under 26,000." These generated a total of 144 adverse analytical findings (AAFs) -- a proportion of 0.46%, or approximately one AAF per 215 samples. Overall, the proportion of AAFs and atypical findings (ATFs) among the 186,723 Olympic sports samples analyzed stood at 0.99%, "putting football well below the average" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 7/27). ... Former Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has demanded $5M compensation from the Nigeria Football Federation "following his dismissal from the job." Keshi was sacked at the start of July and has been replaced by Sunday Oliseh. He has "written to the NFF through his lawyers demanding the money, claiming damages for defamation" (BBC, 7/27).
