Bundesliga Side Hertha Berlin Looking For Second Investor To Make 'Next Jump'

Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin "is looking to sell additional shares in the club," according to Uwe Bremer of the BERLINER MORGENPOST. Pro football "is expensive and success in pro football is even more expensive." In accordance with this philosophy, Hertha "is looking to further improve its financial situation." Hertha President Werner Gegenbauer: "We have solved our past problems through the investment of KKR. We are now looking to find a second investor to give ourselves the opportunity to make the next jump. You aren't going to make it in football without money." The N.Y. private equity firm paid €61.2M for a 9.2% stake in Feb. '14. A source with knowledge of the deal said that Hertha "has not invested a single cent in the team." Hertha "expects to charge a higher price due to the growing importance of the Bundesliga domestically and internationally and because of increased TV and media rights income" (BERLINER MORGENPOST, 7/15).
