Media Notes: Wimbledon 2015 Generates 8 Billion Twitter Impressions

MLS has signed a partnership with beIN Sports to televise live league matches across Southeast Asia and Australia. The deal, which runs through the '18 season, will see at least two matches a week being broadcast in Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines and Thailand. The MLS All-Star Game and all MLS Cup playoff matches will be broadcast by beIN Sports, which will also feature MLS content on its digital platforms (Ian Thomas, Staff Writer). ... IMG has agreed to a three-year deal to distribute Barça TV, Barcelona's TV channel worldwide, excluding Spain and the U.S. The new deal for sales and technical delivery through the '17-18 season has been agreed with Telefónica. With its deal with Barcelona, Telefónica will continue to produce the two weekly blocks of three-hour programming for the 52-week period. IMG previously distributed the channel from '06-10 (IMG). ... SNTV, a joint venture between the AP and IMG, has revealed a partner agreement with Italian news agency ANSA. Under the agreement ANSA will be SNTV's agency partner in Italy and will market and sell its sports video content in the region (SNTV). ... As Wimbledon 2015 came to a "dramatic conclusion, fans turned to Twitter to discuss all of the thrilling action." During the tournament (June 29-July 12), Tweets about Wimbledon generated 8 billion impressions (views) on Twitter and across the web. The top three most tweeted about moments of the men's tournament on Twitter, as measured by TPM, were:

PEAK DROPS SLIGHTLY: Novak Djokovic's victory over Roger Federer attracted an average audience of 7.42 million (51.2%) from 1:45pm on BBC One, up from last year's 5.89 million (38.6%). However, its peak of 9.11 million (53.9%) at around 5:15pm was down from last year's peak of 9.86 million (54.3%) (DIGITAL SPY, 7/13). ... The BBC and the Rugby Football Union announced a new Autumn QBE Int'l highlights agreement that assures coverage of all England's autumn matches on BBC TV until the end of the '19-20 season. The new agreement also includes all highlights of England's summer QBE Int'ls this August and September on BBC Two. All coverage will be available on the BBC iPlayer and the BBC retains the live radio rights to these matches for the same term (Rugby Football Union). ... Infront Sports & Media has secured an exclusive media rights agreement between the European Handball Federation and beIN Sports. The contract covers men's and women's EHF EUROs in '16 and '18, as well as their rights for the away qualification matches of the French national teams. It includes free and pay rights for live, delayed, highlights and news coverage across a broad region. The territories include France, Monaco, Andorra, Mauritius, Madagascar, the MENA region, the U.S., Canada and Australia (Infront).
