Football Notes: Chelsea Fans Set For Court Date To Fight Travel Ban

Four Chelsea fans who face travel bans during int'l matches "due to their alleged involvement in a racist incident on the Paris Métro" will go to court on Wednesday to fight the banning orders. The men will appear at Stratford magistrates court in east London. The Metropolitan police "sought to ban the men" from attending U.K. football matches, and from traveling abroad during periods defined by the Home Office as coinciding with big football games (London GUARDIAN, 7/14). ... Twenty-seven people, including nine police officers, were injured on Tuesday in the Sarajevo streets "following clashes between supporters of Bosnia's FK Sarajevo and those of the Polish side Lech Poznan hours before their Champions League qualifier." The violence "erupted after midnight when dozens of rival fans fought each other and later clashed with the riot police who were trying to quell supporter violence" near a hotel in the Sarajevo suburb of Vogosca that hosted the Poles (GUARDIAN, 7/14).
