Full Play To Negotiate Brazil-Argentina Friendly Despite Corruption Allegations

One of the companies indicted by the U.S. for paying million-dollar bribes to former Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) President José Maria Marin and other CBF execs is "negotiating the arrangement of a Brazil friendly" against Argentina on Sept. 5, according to Chade & Cavalheiro of ESTADÃO. The friendly is part of the Super Clássicos series, which is an "initiative from Marin's term" together with current President Marco Polo Del Nero that involves sports marketing firm Full Play. However, Full Play Owner Hugo Jinkis and VP Mariano Jinkis are on house arrest in Argentina "awaiting the process of extradition" to the U.S. Even so, the CBF said that the match "will be played." In a statement, the CBF said, "The CBF, until presently, was not informed by organizers of any alteration to the match between Brazil and Argentina." Lawyer Francisco Castex said that Full Play "continues operating" normally. Although Hugo and Mariano Jinkis "have part of their assets blocked," they "remain in control of the company, signing contracts from their homes." Sources from the Argentine FA, though, said that it "wants to distance itself from Full Play and does not want the match" (ESTADÃO, 7/1).
