Spanish Football League Says It Will Proceed With Sale Of Int'l TV Rights

LaLiga -- the new brand denomination of the Spanish Football League (LFP) -- confirmed in a statement on Monday that it reached "an agreement with Mediapro Sports through which the company is designated as the agency for the commercialization of the audiovisual rights for the upcoming seasons in the int'l market," according to Juan Jiménez of AS. Although LaLiga "did not specify the number of seasons, the contract assigned to Mediapro is for six years." The new information has to do with what LFP President Javier Tebas said on Friday: "We already have the Real Decreto. We have rescued 38 clubs linked to Mediapro, which will become LaLiga's international agent. ... We need the four Telefónica clubs to reach an agreement." LaLiga said on Monday that "with or without Telefónica, it will negotiate the int'l rights for the Mediapro clubs." The statement said, "In the event that LaLiga does not have all the audiovisual rights for the '15-16 season, the cost of rights will be negotiated based on the clubs that do have them." LaLiga "also made itself available," inviting TV operators to contact it at the following email address: electrónico.televisioninternacional@laliga.es (AS, 6/22).
