Spanish Basketball League (ACB) club Valencia reached an agreement for PEDRO MARTÍNEZ to coach the club through June 30, 2016. Martínez previously coached La Bruixa d'Or Manresa, which he left on Friday. He has coached 711 ACB games in his career, giving him the second-most in the history of the league (SUPERDEPORTE, 6/21). ... Serie A side Fiorentina named Portuguese PAULO SOUSA its new coach. Sousa "amicably resigned" from Swiss side FC Basel, as his contract "only ended" in '17 (LUSA, 6/21). ... Spanish second division side Mallorca appointed former Barcelona and Spain defender ALBERT FERRER as its new coach. The club announced the news via its official website on Saturday but "did not disclose any information about the 45-year-old's contract." He replaces MIGUEL SOLER, who "could only guide the side to a 16th-place finish in La Segunda last season" (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 6/20). ... The Central African Republic Basketball Federation (FCBB) has appointed former AfroBasket champion AUBIN THIERRY GOPORO as the men's national team head coach for the upcoming AfroBasket 2015. Goporo has replaced his brother FREDERIC GOPORO, who guided the Central Africans at AfroBasket 2013 (FIBA). ... JAVIER AGUIRRE, who was fired by Japan in February because of his "alleged involvement in a match-fixing investigation, has returned to management" with UAE club Al-Wahda. The Mexican replaces Saudi Arabian SAMI AL JABER, whose contract was not "renewed after the club's fourth-placed finish in the Arabian Gulf League last month" (REUTERS, 6/19).
