LFP Says Audit Uncovered Irregularities In Elche's Accounting

The Spanish Football League (LFP) "detected irregularities and doubts about the veracity" of Elche's accounting after an audit by BDO in November, according to the EFE. The club has been relegated to the Spanish second division and is expected to lodge an appeal. The LFP said in a report that before the club was promoted to La Liga in '13, "it found itself in a delicate sponsorship situation." At that point, the LFP "expected Elche's accounts to be balanced after promotion." BDO found "numerous irregularities in the economic management by the administrative council led by [former Elche President] José Sepulcre." This report "adds to the list of irregular payments that were not registered in the club's accounts" (EFE, 6/21).
