Media Notes: BBC Switches Away From Andy Murray Match To Air Quiz Show

Andy Murray was “knocked off the telly mid-match” on Tuesday evening -- “by Eggheads.” He was “only into his second set against Taiwan qualifier Lu Yen-hsun at Queen’s Club when the BBC pulled him off the box.” The decision caused outrage on Twitter, “with fans stunned the twice Grand Slam winner was deemed less important than a quiz show” (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 6/16).

IN SPAIN: Real Madrid is one of the businesses "in the race to secure one of Spain's six new digital terrestrial television (TDT) licenses, which will be rewarded in October." Real Madrid TV is "pushing for one of the HD channels." The six new frequencies will include three in HD and three in SD (AS, 6/17). ... Canal+ on Wednesday confirmed that Canal+ Liga will broadcast 24 Int'l Champions Cup games from July 11-Aug. 5, in which both Barcelona and Real Madrid will participate on different continents. Barcelona will play in the U.S., while Real Madrid will play in both Australia and China (AS, 6/17).
