Event Notes: Sydney's Monster Jam Wins Best 2014 Guest Event

The 2014 Monster Jam tour stop at ANZ Stadium in Sydney won the Best Guest Event of the Year award at the 2015 The Stadium Business Awards. The award was in recognition of the best non-sports guest event, concert or one-off event held at a major sports venue in the past 12 months (Monster Jam). ... The inaugural final of an Islamic int'l rugby tournament between Malaysia and Algeria was "abandoned" over the weekend after a "savage all-in brawl involving players, officials and spectators." Sunday's match in Malacca was the final of the inaugural Crescent Cup. It was aimed at "promoting solidarity and close cooperation between Islamic countries." An assistant referee had "several teeth broken and suffered neck injuries in the melee, while 10 players from both sides required treatment for broken bones and cuts after the fight." The Algerians were "upset at what they saw as the partiality of the Thai referee" (REUTERS, 6/16). ... Manchester has been "chosen to host" the 2016 World Rugby U20 Championship. The games "will be played at AJ Bell Stadium, the home of Sale Sharks and Super League's Salford Red Devils," and Man City's academy stadium (BBC, 6/16).
