Twenty-Six Federations Submit Applications For Inclusion In Tokyo 2020 Olympics

The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee received applications from 26 IOC-recognized Int'l Federations proposing events to be considered for inclusion at the Tokyo 2020 games. The applicant IFs were revealed at a press conference following a Tokyo 2020 Exec Board meeting. The Tokyo 2020 Additional Event Programme Panel will now examine each application and a shortlist will be announced on June 22. The second phase of the application process will then commence. Review of the applications will be based on the following principles: the additional event(s) will serve as a driving force to promote the Olympic Movement and its values, with a focus on youth appeal; the additional event(s) will add value to the Games by engaging the Japanese population and new audiences worldwide, reflecting the Tokyo 2020 Games' vision and the selection procedure will be open and fair.
